Caracalla was a Roman Emperor who ruled from AD 198 to 217, known for his tyrannical leadership and significant legislative reforms, most notably the Constitutio Antoniniana (Edict of Caracalla), which granted Roman citizenship to nearly all free inhabitants of the Roman Empire. His full name was Lucius Septimius Bassianus at birth, but he was later known as Marcus Aurelius Severus Antoninus Augustus, and he is more commonly referred to as Caracalla, a nickname supposedly derived from the Gallic cloak that he often wore.
