LOL! In this video, I was playing with Leonardo.ai. and used a picture of my daughter and me wearing Steampunk hats to let the A.I. art experiment with the pic. I also, found a new Text to Speech voice of J. Jonah Jameson from Spider-Man. I was just having fun making this video, but since we were both wearing Steampunk hats I decided to do a video on the psychology of retrofuturism and how it relates to steampunk.
What is retrofuturism? Retrofuturism is a term that describes the ambivalent fascination for a future that never came to pass. It is often applied to an array of pop-culture ephemera from the early to mid-20th century, such as robot toys, pulp magazine covers, architectural utopias, etc. Retrofuturism reflects changing ideas of progress and engages with the popular strain of Futurism that thrived from the late nineteenth century through the 1970s.
What is steampunk? Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction that incorporates retrofuturistic technology and aesthetics inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery. Steampunk works are often set in an alternative history of the Victorian era or the American “Wild West”, where steam power remains in mainstream use, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power. Steampunk features anachronistic technologies or retrofuturistic inventions as people in the 19th century might have envisioned them, such as steam cannons, lighter-than-air airships, analog computers, or mechanical computers.
