Video originating from a WhatsApp group named “Gaza is ours, for ever” shows Israeli ultra-Orthodox Jewish men and boys reading religious texts near the Syrian village of Hader at the foot of Mount Hermon, Syria’s highest mountain peak near the border with Lebanon in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on Thursday.
Israeli forces took over Syrian army positions in parts of Mount Hermon on 8 December.
The ultra-Orthodox men say they have printed the Tanya, a prominent Hasidic philosophy book, and established a “Chabad house” in Hader village.
The Chabad branch of ultra-Orthodox Judaism is known to send emissaries to manage its centres, which are called Chabad houses.
