What is tea? It’s an easily overlooked question. Outside of the world’s tea growing regions, we tend to think of anything (other than coffee) brewed in hot water as tea. This, however, is far from the truth.
In fact, the word “tea” refers not just to a warm drink, but also to the single plant species from which all true tea types (green, white, oolong, black, and post-fermented styles like pu-erh) are made: Camellia sinensis. Anything else (like chamomile, peppermint, ginger, or peach) is actually called a tisane, or herbal infusion.
Join us as Alice explains each of the major categories of TRUE TEA, how they are processed, and the diversity of flavors that can be coaxed from this one plant.
