NATO on Saturday staged a show of force near the home of Bosnia's most wanted war crimes suspect, Radovan Karadzic.
French armoured carriers and Italian military vehicles massed near the home of the former Bosnian Serb leader in the nationalist stronghold of Pale outside Sarajevo.
The troops hovered in the street for an hour and then departed, leading to heightened speculation that Karadzic's arrest could be only days away.
Eleven armoured personnel carriers from the NATO-led peace force massed near the home of ousted Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic on Saturday.
The gathering of French and Italian troops was intended as a show of force against Bosnia's number one war crimes suspect.
Their arrival in Pale - Karadzic's mountain stronghold southeast of Sarajevo - prompted several nervous residents to venture timidly out into the street.
One woman expressed her outrage at their presence in the town.
UPSOUND: "Go back to Sarajevo!"
Serbs fear that Karadzic's arrest for war crimes atrocities could now come at any moment.
NATO has already sharpened its knives with the shooting and arrest of two war crimes suspects last week.
Now the net seems to be tightening around all those suspected of atrocities during the Bosnian war.
In Banja Luka, there were further signs on Saturday of the simmering feud between Karadzic and Bosnian Serb President Biljana Plavsic.
Serbs apparently supporting Plavsic burned one-thousand copies of the pro-Karadzic daily Glas Srpski outside her Banja Luka office.
Plavsic has caused a storm by accusing wartime leader Radovan Karadzic of illegally amassing vast personal wealth during the conflict.
Now she is quoted as saying that she may use police or troops to arrest Karadzic and his allies if necessary.
Plavsic herself spent the day at the Banja Luka cemetery
There she paid a last tribute to her late companion Nikola Koljevic, who committed suicide earlier this year.
