Maharashtra Minister Varsha Gaikwad said in a proposal to reopen schools in the state from 24th Jan based on the local COVID-19 situations. Her proposal has been sent to chief minister Uddhav Thackeray. After 700 days of on and off shutdown, schools in Maharashtra might open again. The schools which were closed till February 15, now reopening physical classes on 24th January after demands from a section of parents and students. All rights have been given to the local administration. Vaccination of children will also be a priority. Also, Speaking on the current scenario of the pandemic, the health minister said that though the cases are surging in Maharashtra, the number of hospitalisations and the need for medical oxygen remain low.
