This video shows how to determine the minimum power required for a propeller aircraft. It goes though the derivation of a formula that provides the minimum power required for a piston engine aircraft.
It is based on the assumption that at steady state, the thrust = drag and that the coefficient of drag Cd = Cd0 +KCl^2. It therefore assumes that that designer knows the drag coefficient of the intended aircraft.
