The Department of Basic Education, teachers' unions, MEC's of education, school governing bodies and other stakeholders met on Saturday and agreed that schools should reopen today for Grade 7 and 12.
This comes amidst unions being at loggerheads with the department for weeks about the lack of readiness of schools amidst COVID-19.
In a joint statement, NAPTOSA, NATU, SADTU and PEU said that they are satisfied and welcome the progress the department has made thus far, however, the Educators Union of South Africa, which represents 27 000 teachers across the country disagrees.
