Health workers and teachers in Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire were the first to receive COVAX funded coronavirus vaccines worldwide and amongst the first to receive the vaccine on the African continent.
These vaccinations mark the beginning of what will be the largest, fastest and most complex roll out of vaccines in history. In total, UNICEF, alongside the World Health Organization, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, hopes to deliver 2 billion doses of coronavirus vaccines by the end of the year.
