Here’s a fun activity for your math class this week! Give your students a problem and ask them to solve it in as many ways as they can - using a number line! This puts the emphasis on the thinking rather than simply on the answer. In the example shown, I’m solving 75+38. Are there more ways that you could add? You could do this as a whole class activity or a small group activity. Or post chart paper around the classroom with different addition or subtraction problems. Put kids in partners and have them circulate around the room, adding their own solution to each piece of chart paper. When they are finished, each chart paper will be filled with different ways to solve the problem.
