Various shots fire fighters directing hoses at smouldering building (according to paperwork this is in Streatham). Various shots civil defence workers working on street almost completely destroyed by aerial bombardment, women volunteers bring them cups of tea and biscuits. Civilian survivors of air raid are seen sorting through pile of belongings rescued from bombed out houses.
Various shots civil defence workers (ARP wardens, nurses, firemen etc.) picking through ruined remains of bombed out church (according to paperwork this is Guards' Chapel). Very emotive images: amongst the rubble we see words engraved on wall "peace to men on earth", crucifix on the altar remains undamaged while rescue workers work in front of them. Several wounded people are rescued from the rubble on stretchers.
