Mesmerising Displays at Sainik School Bijapur
Golden Jubilee Founder's Day celebration commenced with great pomp and show at the premises of Sainik School Bijapur on Sunday, 15 Sep 2013.
Lt Gen Om Prakash, AVSM, SM, Director General Recruiting, IHQ of MoD (Army) was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He also inaugurated the Photo-exhibition 'Down the Memory Lane'. A souvenir, Golden Jubilee issue of School Magazine, was also released by the Chief Guest to mark the occasion. The programme began with lighting of the lamp followed by invocation song.
Principal Col R Balaji welcomed the Chief Guest and read out the annual report of the school and briefed about the note-worthy achievements of the school in academic as well as co-curricular activities. Mr. Shivayogi Kalsad, Deputy Commissioner, Bijapur spoke on the yearlong celebration of golden Jubilee of the school.
Speaking on the occasion Lt Gen Om Prakash said that the alumni of Sainik School Bijapur have created a niche for themselves in whichever careers they have joined. This has been owing to the ethos of the school which had imbibed those core qualities of mind, body and character which have been engraved in young minds of tender age. It is not the qualification but the qualities and values of honesty, truthfulness, integrity, commitment and above all humility have helped many to scale greater heights in their life. The school motto 'To be invincible and fearless' is very apt to motivate everyone be it military or civil field, he felt.
A number of programmes were held during the grand finale of the Golden Jubilee celebration. The Founder's Day celebration began with mesmerizing displays and fabulous shows. Several outstation teams from Army, Navy and Air Force participated in the grand celebration. The programmes of outstation teams included breathtaking Para Motor Gliding Display by Army Adventure Wing. Parachute Regiment Training Centre, Bangalore and awesome aero-modelling show of aerobatics of models of aeroplanes by 8th Karnataka Air Squadron, NCC, Belgaum. There were also fascinating Air Warriors Drill display and thrilling Kalaripayattu by Madras Regimental Centre, Wellington. Spectacular Lezim performance by 26th Marath Light Infantry, Pune and MLI TA Battalion, Pune and eye-catching Malkhamb display by Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre, Belgaum were added attraction to the event. Mesmerising band displays of Naval Band of INS Kadamba, Karwar and Army Band of 27 Madras Regiment filled the air with melody. Cadets of Sainik School Bijapur also displayed their mutifarious talents and skills in Mass PT display, Lezim performance, Aerobics, Gymnastics and Band display which were held in the afternoon.
Earlier Lt Gen Om Prakash paid floral tributes to the martyrs by laying wreath at the Remember Sthal. During the programme the retired members of staff were felicitated by the Chief Guest and the commendation certificates were presented to the staff for their meritorious service. The trophies were also awarded to the winners of various curricular and co-curricular activities held during the Golden Jubilee year.
The high profile dignitaries among the alumni Maj Gen PD Hallur, Maj Gen Arjun Muthanna, Maj Gen Cariappa, Rear Admiral R M Purandare graced the occasion. Headmaster Col Rishi Raj Singh, Registrar Wg Cdr E Srinivas and Senior Master GSR Murthy were present on the occasion.
