In this clip we see Dr. David Drumlin tell Dr. Ellie Arroway how we live in an unfair world. He says this to her because she should've been the one to go on the trip and would've been the one to go if it wasn't for him unethically twisting how events transpired.
Ellie tells him that, "I've always believed that the world is what we make of it."
This is in response to him telling her, "too bad, but that's just how the ball bounces." (I'm paraphrasing. Watch the video, or movie for that matter)
Essentially, Dr. Drumlin is a coward. He is trying to excuse his greedy, despicable behavior by saying "the world is unfair" and that's why "things are the way things are." But he made CHOICES to pathetically worm his way into a position so that he could greedily get what he wanted... at the expense of other people, specifically, Ellie.
This is a crystal clear example of several small pieces of phenomenon in a deluded person's mind... and one large glaring example of a deluded coward Not taking accountability. He blames the world for how things turned out, excusing his own choices for hurting another human being when it is his own actions that caused the outcome.
How YOUR actions, small though they were in the BEGINNING, changed MY life. It doesn't take much for you maggots to change the course of a life.
