How to respond to a client demanding RAW files after you sent the final gallery?
The topic of ownership when it comes to RAW images seems to be a continuous hot topic. While I've personally never dealt with this (hopefully I never do), I've noticed the contention comes from a miscommunication between the parties involved after the final images have been delivered.
I've previously touched on the topic of contracts and why they're so important, even if no money is being exchanged. They get everyone on the same page and save a massive headache down the line.
If you're not working with any contracts yet and you do any sort of collab or provide a service, I recommend at least have some kind of initial draft to use - there are tons of free templates online!
I'm not saying RAW files can never be delivered - quite the contrary. In my opinion, RAW images are totally up for grabs, but just know there is a premium involved to attain them.
More purist photographers might disagree with me, but everyone runs their business differently so it's ultimately up to the agreement between the parties involved.
Curious what are your thoughts on the topic of RAW image ownership?
