Sheikh Jassim, who fronted a Qatari bid for Manchester United, withdrew from the process after being outmaneuvered by British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Sheikh Jassim's final offer was reportedly worth over £5 billion, significantly short of the Glazer family's valuation of around £6.5 billion. The Qatari bid was seen as highly ambitious, with a forecasted revenue of £1 billion by 2027, excluding potential benefits from developing Old Trafford. Sheikh Jassim's bid was launched through a not-for-profit entity called the Nine Two Foundation, and he had pledged to acquire 100% of the club and clear its debt. However, Ratcliffe's offer for a 25% stake in the club, subject to final agreement and board approval, seemed to be more appealing to the Glazers. Sheikh Jassim's bid was seen as a move by Qatar to expand its footprint in European football, following the perceived success of the 2022 World Cup. Qatar's sporting ambitions remain, with investments in US sports and potential future bids for other football clubs or major events like the Olympic Games.
