Today walking around Kuta, Lombok, I talk to Gary who with his wife spends half the year living in Lombok. We discuss the reasons why Gary prefers living here and also chat about how some of us seem to have an innate need to wander or constantly be on the move.
I tell the story of a night on one of my first trips to Indonesia when I joined a local woman at her home after a night at a bar on the backpacker street Jalan Jaksa. After a short time chatting inside her apartment local police officers arrive to inform me I was in trouble as I wasn’t allowed to be inside an Indonesian woman’s home.
I also meet the wife of a local fisherman who explains a little of her life in the fishing village of Kuta, where she comes from, and why her English is so good.
