STORYLINE
A suicide attacker targeting Afghan police blew himself up in Kandahar on Tuesday wounding three people, police said.
"I was inside the shop and I heard an explosion. When I came out I saw the suicide attacker had been killed and one policeman and two civilians had been wounded," Nasir Ahmed, and eyewitness told AP Television in the southern Afghan city.
NATO-led troops patrolling the city also fatally shot a civilian who drove too close to their convoy, police said, the third such fatal shooting this month.
A military spokesman, said soldiers had given signals for the car to stop but that it kept approaching.
In other violence in Afghanistan on Tuesday, a suicide bomber attacked the entrance to the main US military base in Afghanistan Tuesday during a visit by US Vice President Dick Cheney, killing up to 23 people and wounding some 20 more.
