This is something no one wants to think about, the idea that you can be turned in to CPS to be investigated for child abuse. I’m thankful we have a system designed to protect our children, and I’m thankful they will investigate even if everything looks fine on the outside.
However, no parent wants to be at the center of one of these investigations. If this were to happen, I need people who’ve spent enough time with our family that they can be completely honest with CPS, while at the same time, helping to clear up the issue someone has with our parenting.
I do not want our friends in the position of feeling like they need to lie for us. I want their honesty. But to get that, they need mine. And this is it. My kid claps her hands and yells, “It’s not nice to hurt children,” when she’s irritated with me. I need them to see it so that they can honestly say they’ve seen it happen, and that I wasn’t hurting her.
