To kick off our series on human origins we start all the way back at the beginning to 7 million years ago. In this video we talk about our oldest human ancestor Sahelanthropus tchadensis or, as his holotype fossil is colloquially known, Tuomai. This one of a kind fossil was discovered in 2001 on a dig conducted by Michel Brunet and has changed the way that we view human evolution from its remarkable age to its striking resemblance to both Homo sapians and great apes. Join us as we explore this miraculous archaeological discovery and discuss its many mysteries.
