LIVE: Bomb Cyclone Hits California with Heavy Rain, Winds, and Snow
Northern California is being battered by heavy rains and snow as a bomb cyclone storm sweeps through the region, triggering widespread flooding and an increased risk of mudslides. Flood warnings are in effect for much of the northern wine country, including Napa, where over 1 foot (30 cm) of rain has fallen in the past three days, representing a third of the area’s yearly average. The National Weather Service (NWS) warned of prolonged rainfall leading to higher risks of flooding, landslides, and downed trees and powerlines. The storm has already caused significant disruptions, with nearly two dozen flights canceled and over 80 delayed at San Francisco International Airport. The bomb cyclone, the first major storm of the season, has already left over 183,000 people without power in Washington state, and two fatalities were reported in Seattle. Southern California is expected to experience lighter rain, with another storm set to arrive on Sunday.
