This 90 degree load technique can help make sure you catch as many fish as possible while using soft plastic lures rigged on jigheads.
All soft plastics are prone to get torn while pushing them up over the keeper points/ridges of jigheads, so it's important to do all we can to minimize the risk of damage.
I used to just squeeze the soft plastic so the material gets pushed up over the barbs, but that can only do minimal help.
What completely changed the game for me was using this 90 degree twist when pushing the lure up over the keeper barbs. This ensures that there barbs can only compromise part of the lure that won't damage the jigheads longevity since that side material doesn't hold the lure on the jighead while it's being used.
Note: This same technique should be used when taking the lure off as well.
Have you used this rigging method before? Have you found any other styles of rigging that can help increase longevity of soft plastics?
