Hello, I'm Dr. Beatriz Currier, the Medical Director of the Cancer Patient Support Center at Miami Cancer Institute. The Support Center is here to provide you with a broad range of services from diagnosis through treatment and into survivorship care. We are dedicated to improving the quality of your life with compassionate care, to provide healing, recovery, and wellness. Our comprehensive approach addresses not only your physical needs, but also your psychological, social, and spiritual needs during cancer treatment and beyond.
Beatriz Currier:
The goal of the Support Center is to bring together a team of top specialists to provide seamless, personalized care for the whole patient. Our medical teams include physicians trained in psychiatric oncology, integrative medicine, physical rehabilitation, and pain management. The psychiatric oncology team includes psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and chaplains. They provide counseling and treatment to enhance the emotional and physical wellbeing of our patients, as well as their families during cancer care. The integrative medicine physician leads a team of specialists that provide holistic mind body interventions. These include acupuncture, herbal therapy consultations, nutritional counseling, massage therapy, and exercise programs, all aimed to promote lifestyle changes to enhance your health and wellness. The cancer we habilitation physician leads a team of physical, occupational, and speech therapist to restore your strength, stamina, and level of function. The cancer pain medicine specialists provide relief for pain syndromes associated with cancer and its treatment.

After treatment, you may transition to survivorship care. The survivorship program team will create your personalized cancer treatment summary document. They will also treat residual side effects related to your treatment, provide close medical follow-up to monitor for recurrent or new cancers, and recommend lifestyle changes to promote health and prevent cancer. A nurse navigator will be in close consultation with you by phone to help guide you through your cancer journey into diagnosis, through treatment, and into survivorship care.
