There are all kinds of different ways to practice guitar solos, and once you begin getting into all the different strategies you will start to feel like you know which methods are worth your time and which ones you should skip.

Because most of the soloing methods out there share many of the same functions, you are going to get a lot of repetition when it comes to seeing variation from one soloing exercise to the next. This is where our lesson takes a different path.

The criteria that we will apply to this lessons soloing exercise is not based upon notes or scales. Instead it focuses on concepts that relate to the chord progression (soloing backing track). One concept is linear harmony movement with another being anticipation. And, the other focuses on the application of a descending chord sequence.

This focus on chord concepts will provide a more capable backing progression that delivers the chord changes with not only more harmonic strength, but also a better connection to your ‘musical mind.’ This approach to chord movement, (as you’ll discover), creates progressions that are easier to perform solos over.
