Join Dan as he explores the advanced saturation techniques of the Slayer Espresso Single Group. Both of these techniques use Slayer’s patented needle valve technology to fine-tune the espresso’s flavor profile.
First, he explains “extended saturation” and the difference it can make in your espresso. By restricting the flow rate of water as it enters the grouphead (aka Pre-Brew phase) longer than a Slayer Shot you can reduce acidity while increasing sweetness and body. This method is great for super bright or high acidity coffees.
Second, he will explain the “decline” method. This is accomplished by bringing the brew actuator back to the Pre-Brew phase two-thirds of the way through extraction and finishing with a restricted water flow rate. This allows you to retain sweetness and acidity while reducing the intensity and body of the shot. The decline technique can be great for fresh coffees that might be particularly intense or require balance.
