This was our first visit to Amsterdam, Netherlands and we had a great time getting to know the area. We stayed on the east side of the city near Javastraat, which is quickly becoming one of the trendier areas of Amsterdam.

We couldn't pass up the opportunity to go to the Van Gogh Museum, and we really enjoyed seeing so much of his work, and learning about his life. We also visited the Rembrandt House Museum, which is a small collection of artwork displayed in the house that Rembrandt lived in. If you're looking for something quiet, a beautiful spot is the Begijnhof, which is a secret garden in the middle of the city. About half of the garden is open to the public, while the other half is reserved for the residents of the surrounding buildings. A great way to see Amsterdam is by boat! We really enjoyed the canal cruise through the city, and would highly recommend it. The Heineken brewery is a big tourist attraction, but the much smaller, Brouwerij't IJ brewery was a favourite of ours, and is definitely worth checking out if you like local, organic craft beer.
