September 1, 2023: Friday of the Twenty-first Week in Ordinary Time

Be vigilant at all times and pray,
that you may have the strength to stand before the Son of Man.

Parable of the Ten Virgins
Gospel | Matthew 25:1-13

"Dear Jesus,
You are teaching me today important reflections on the parable: the wise virgins are the ones who heard the Word and followed. The foolish virgins who heard the Word but refuse to understand.

The lamp is my heart while the oil are the good deeds that You are calling me to practice to keep my heart burning with Your Word. The merchants are our priests and pastors who are our mentors and messengers of the Word. Midnight is the unknown day or the hour when You, the Bridegroom, will come again to take the righteous ones to Heaven.

I pray today that You fill me with Your adequate oil to keep the light of my faith shining. Help me to stand fast and ready on the day of my salvation. Amen."
