Chief Justice of India U.U Lalit will retire on November 8 after a short stint of holding the high office. The law minister Kiren Rijiju has asked Justice Lalit to name his successor. As per convention, before leaving office, the CJI names the senior-most judge as his successor. A Chief Justice of India holds his or her office until the age of 65. CJI U.U Lalit had come into office after the previous CJI NV Ramana had retired.
