Many people will not recognize the name O. Winston Link, but if you are a railfan or a fan of railroad photography, his iconic photo are legendary. From 1955 through 1960, O. Winston Link documented the end of the steam era in railroad transportation.
For 5-years, Winston travel about Virginia, Southern West Virginia and Western North Carolina photographing steam locomotives as they traveled on the tracks of the Norfolk & Western Railway. He also visited the Historic Roanoke Shops in Roanoke, Virginia to capture the men who built and maintained these wonderful machines. During His travels he also documented through photography the people of the railroad communities.
Today, his photographs are on display in the O. Winston Link Museum in Roanoke, Virginia,

It's a wonderful museum and an awesome tribute to the man who captured the end of an era.
