If you follow me anywhere else on social media, you'll know that Albania captured my heart. Asides the fact that it was where I began my year of full-time travel, it is a beautiful country with beautiful people. In the course of a year, I went back to Albania 3 times!
As I mentioned, Albania wasn't initially in my plans and I am so glad this coincidence happened because otherwise, I would have missed this gem of a place.
Albania is full of adventure, good food, beautiful beaches, history, landscapes and a vibrant nightlife. So no matter your vibe, you'll find it here. And the people are so much fun!!!
Some of my favourite cities in Albania are Durrës, Himare, Gjirokastër, Vlorë and of course Tirana the capital. If you love the mountains please do not miss Theth.
The historic house with the large key I visited in Gjirokaster is called Zekate House.
Mother Teresa She was born into a Kosovar Albanian family in Skopje, Ottoman Empire (now the capital of North Macedonia).
Throughout its existence, Albania has been inhabited by different civilizations such as the Illyrians, Thracians, Ancient Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Venetians, and the Ottomans so this comes out a lot in the country's history, food and customs.
Considering how affordable Albania is compared to other places within the region, I'll definitely recommend it over and over again for slower travel.
So here's a little piece from a country I fell in love with that I'm so excited to share with you xx
