Our patient seen here was happy with her frontal and outer thighs, but has a significant amount of inner thigh laxity post weight loss. As Dr. Agha explains, the best procedure for excess inner thigh skin laxity is the Vertical Thighplasty. Also known as thigh reduction, the vertical thighplasty is used for treating the loose skin of the thighs in a circumferential dimension. It is especially useful for treating excess thigh skin that spans from the pubic area to the inner knee on the inner surface of the thighs.
Through a vertical incision (hence its name of vertical thighplasty) a large ellipse of skin and tissue from the inner thighs is excised from the groin to the inner knees. Dr. Agha then closes the incisions in three layers. The incision is placed on the inner aspect of the thighs so that it is well hidden. The resulting scar will only be seen when the inner thighs are exposed. A Vertical Thighplasty is the best procedure, in this case for instance, being that in this manner the thigh circumference can be reduced by about 1/3 (in most patients.) The vertical thighplasty is not a lift. It is a thigh reduction procedure.
Often done on patients who have lost a significant amount of weight, a vertical thighplasty is often combined with other body contouring surgeries such as thigh liposuction.
