The Singapore Lyric Opera returns in full strength to the Esplanade Theatre with an exciting new production of Johann Strauss II’s operetta, Die Fledermaus (“The Bat” or known as "The Revenge of the Bat"), featuring the SLO chorus and orchestra reuniting on stage after three years.

When was the last time you were embarrassed by someone? How did you react? After being very drunk and clad in a bat-costume, Falke became a laughingstock after being abandoned by Eisenstein in the center of the town. Falke seeks revenge by collaborating with the Prince to separately invite Eisenstein, his wife Rosalinde (both of whom are unfaithful to each other) and their witty maid Adele to the same party, unbeknownst to each other and all under disguise.

Get your ticket, get your mask and join in the fun! Be treated to lavish dance music by Johann Strauss II (composer of "The Blue Danube" waltz), and numbers like Adele’s Laughing Song ("Mein Herr Marquis”) and the Champagne Song (“Im Feuerstrom der Reben”). With comedic twists lined up, just who will have the last laugh?

The operetta will be sung in German, and English & Chinese surtitles will be provided. The original Viennese setting will be adapted to a modern Singaporean context and spoken dialogue will be in English.

The Singapore Lyric Opera, established in 1991, aims to engage Singaporeans in the appreciation and presentation of opera through nurturing and promoting the joyful art of singing.
