Visualization of a total knee replacement surgery performed on a patient suffering from severe knee adhesions, osteophytes and arthritis. Surgery begins as a tourniquet is placed above the knee and inflated. Then a longitudinal midline cut is made. After the skin, tendons and patella are retracted, the osteophytes are taken down to the condyles and Hohmann retracters are placed as the knee is bent. An intramedullary rod and femoral components are placed to provide a guide for the femoral cuts. Once the femoral cuts are made, a PCL retractor separates the bone, the tibial block in placed, and the subsequent tibial cuts are made. A femoral block is then put into place to make the chamfer cuts allowing for the trial prosthesis to be placed.
