Hedge Fund Investor ($15bn AUM) on How to Differentiate yourself in interviews:
First thing is you have to be prepared
Second thing is you have to passionate about it. Different places will have different processes, but the common questions you'll get are: Why are you interested in investing? Why are you choosing public markets over private markets? Who your favorite investor is? What is your favorite investing book? What is your investing style?
And they'll also ask you for a couple of stock pitches. You need to be thoughtful in how you present it, what are the key areas, what are the risks and the target price, etc.
You want to go in a little bit differentiated. If you go in and say your favorite investor is Warren Buffet and you read Margin of Safety. Funds are looking for alpha. So, go in with a differentiated view.
My favorite investor is Sam Druckenmiller. I'm really impressed by his 30-year no loss record. I found his calls on 2020 to be really interesting point, etc.
Just be thoughtful around the question. In this industry, people want people who just think differently.
