Performing a compression test on a ~10min 1080p30 project.
Source: Adobe Media Encoder HDTV 1080p29.97 2.5GB file (approximately 3rd generation with these settings). Each video was compressed with these settings directly from the AE project (direct copy), except for Handbrake which cannot accept AE project files (2nd generation copy of a HDTV 1080p29.97 setting).
Process: Adobe After Effects 5.5 layering video files with "Difference" transparency (anything similar to the reference is black, so the more black you see, the less different the compressed layer is [ie better quality])
Each of the settings are standard, out-of-the-box settings that were enlarged when brought into After Effects.
Results: for a 720p output, use the TivoHD settings- you clearly get a great visual compression at less than half the size of YouTubeHD and VimeoHD.
For 1080p output, use Handbrake's "Normal" settings, as there's an almost indiscernible difference to the master, and the file size is one third to HDTV 1080p)
