Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) is the amount of protection an item (in this case, gloves,) provides against UPF and UVB rays. From my reading, anything 50+ UPF is supposed to block out 98% of these rays. Since the skin on top of your hands is so thin compared to other parts of your body, it's a necessity while driving.
