This was the coldest month in the UK since January 1963 and the fifth coldest February since 1659.
The Central England Temperature (CET) for the month was -1.1C. There wouldn't be another sub zero monthly CET until December 2010.
The month was characterised by bitterly cold easterly winds. There were significant snowfalls in places but the month was very dry.
