Did you know that cleaning and maintaining your gutters and downspouts can protect your home's foundation?

This can save you a lot of money when it comes to repairs on both your roof and your foundation. Gutters and downspouts direct water away from your home and it's foundation. This prevents water from pooling along side of your house which can result in settlement and leakage.

One of the easiest things that you can do is to check and make sure that you do not have debris in your gutters or downspouts. If you do , clean your gutters out to allow water to flow. This should be done at a minimum of twice a year.

Check around your homes foundation for pooling water or leaks from the gutters. It can mean that you have a clog. If your downspout has a clog, causing water to backup, check the elbow of the downspout for large debris. If leaves are an issue, Install a drain guard to prevent them from entering the downspout. When leaks do occur, you may want to consider replacing your gutters or downspouts. Consider adding downspout extensions to direct water away from the home and foundation.
