Humacao was established by people that arrived from the Canary Islands (Spain) in 1722. Humacao will have it's 300th Anniversary in 2022. However, there was another settlement from the 16th Centuary before this one, that was destroyed during a Taíno Indian War. The attack was lead by Taíno King Mabú, nephew of the Taíno King Jumacao (the town got it's name from him).
Note: A Taíno King is the chief of all 18 Taíno Indian chiefs of Puerto Rico. He way known as Cacique Rey and the Taíno name of Puerto Rico was Boriken.
