China's Premier Li Qiang met Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Canberra. Li, who is on a four-day visit to Australia, is the first Chinese Premier to visit the country in seven years. Prime Minister Albanese welcomed Premier Li to the Australian Parliament in Canberra, and stated that these talks between Beijing and Canberra are "important and candid". Albanese also spoke on the differences that remain between the two countries. According to the Australian Prime Minister, these talks reached a "fruitful consensus". Australia is part of AUKUS- a group that includes its Western allies the US and the UK- and has so been called out by Beijing for allegedly letting tensions heighten in the Indo-Pacific region by continuing to stay a part of this grouping.
