Plas Mawr, 'Great Hall', is said to be the finest Elizabethan townhouse in Britain. It was built 1576-1585, by Robert Wynn(c.1520-1598), a local landowner and merchant. He shared the house with his first wife, Dorothy Griffith, who died in 1586, shortly after the house was completed. Look out for their initials in the plasterwork. He married his 2nd wife, Dorothy Dymock in 1588.
In the late 17th century, and through marriage, it became the property of the Mostyn family. Today the house in in the care of Cadw, which looks after historic sites in Wales.
