When air is blown into the bottom of a powder bed, the powder behave like liquid. This is what we call the ‘fluidized bed’. It is generally known that the fluidized bed has a density and a viscosity like any liquid. When materials are immersed in the fluidized bed, materials with lower density than the density of the fluidized bed float. In contrast, those with higher density sink into the fluidized bed. This is method of utilizing the different densities of materials in the fluidized bed to separate them, that we call ‘fluidized bed separation’.
Advantages:
-Water circulation system and drying of separation products are unnecessary.
-Density of the fluidized bed can be adjusted within a wide range of values 0.6-4.0g/cm3 as desired.
•Gas-solid fluidized bed
•Sink-float separation
•Dry separation
