The book fair is the Nordic region's largest cultural event.
South Africa was the honorary guest and theme country for the 2022 Book Fair. The country’s literature and current societal issues were reflected in seminars, dialogues on the Fair premises and in poetic performances.
Sweden has had strong ties to South Africa, which stretch back to its political and humanitarian support in the struggle against apartheid from the 1960s to the new dawn of democracy in Nineties.
Collaborating partners are the National Library of South Africa and South Africa’s Department of Sport, Arts and Culture. The program has been designed together with organisations from the civil sector, among them the Global Square and the Swedish Church.
