Trump's first impeachment - 2020
Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, said acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney was aware of the “quid pro quo” that would have included a promise from Ukraine to investigate the 2016 election and the Bidens, in exchange for the release of U.S. aid. “I didn’t know that the aid was conclusively tied. I was presuming. He was in a position to say yes it was or no it wasn’t,” Sondland said, adding, “he said yes it was.” Sondland had earlier testified that there was a “quid pro quo” in which U.S. aid and a White House meeting were contingent on Ukraine agreeing to investigate. Sondland also said he understood the “prerequisites” to be a reflection of “Trump’s desires and requirements.”
