Today, I am going to talk about how AI is already making a significant impact in the realm of breast cancer diagnosis, particularly in the critical task of reading mammograms.
In the realms of breast health, early detection plays an important role, and that's where AI comes into play, particularly in reading screening mammograms. These mammograms are performed as part of a screening program where patients do not usually have any symptoms like lumps for example.
In the UK, you are eligible to enroll in the screening program when you reach the age of between 47 to 50 years old and you will get a screening mammogram once every three years.
AI algorithms have been trained to analyze mammograms, which are X-ray images of breast tissue. These algorithms are designed to detect subtle patterns, masses, as well as micro-calfications that might indicate the presence of breast cancer. And here is where it gets exciting.
