Hey, everybody, welcome to etrailer.com, I'm Bobby. And today we're taking a look at the Glacier twisted-link snow tire chain here on our 2020 Ford F-150. Now, this can be a great way of giving you a lot of traction in your medium to heavy-duty snow. Now, this twisted link is gonna be great, 'cause it's still gonna be road safe, but we're still gonna be biting through that thick snow and ice that might be building up on the road. Or if we're somewhere on the road or on the side of the road, it can get us out of it. Taking a closer look here at that twist link.
You are gonna see just a slightly more aggressive style compared to your square or those D-links that you might see out elsewhere. So you can see, getting nice ridges that are gonna be puncturing through and breaking up the snow and ice as we go. You are seeing a ladder style pattern here today as well, which is gonna give you a lot of great start and stop maneuverability. Which is great, of course, for those roads, making sure we are nice and safe. The only thing that I'd look out for, you are gonna lose a little bit on that turning just as you are making those left and rights.
They're gonna be feeling those bumps as you go. And it's gonna be one obstacle for our truck to overcome. However, don't think the Ford F-150's gonna have any trouble doing so today. And as you can see too, it is pretty smoothed surface, so it isn't gonna be that harsh of a ride. Now, if you are needing something even more aggressive, I might recommend the V-Bar, but just keep in mind, you're losing a little bit of that road compatibility.
So that's something to look out for. We are having cams here on the side as well, which makes it great for our installation as we aren't needing a tensioner. But we'll break that down later in the video. Another thing to mention though, guys, this is a low-carbon steel construction. So that means that the outside of it is eventually gonna start breaking down and whittling down.
Now, it should last us for a good few seasons, of course. And as long as we are treating it well with a little bit of maintenance, of course, rinsing it, getting all that salt and all that extra debris off can really help. And I also recommend just kinda coating it a little bit in an oil at the end of the season, can really start extending that life period. Therefore, it'll be ready the next time we need it. Now this isn't gonna take too much time to get on. So let's go ahead and see how we got it installed. For our first part of installation, we just wanna lay out our chains, things we're looking for, any kinda kinks or links in our chains or binds that might be holding us up. Today it is looking like we're good. Ones to check too are these side rails here. They can just kinda get twisted on themselves. All you really have to do is walk it out down the chain and it should right itself. One thing to take note too, we wanna make sure that our hard-point surfaces are poking up here. So as you guys can see, we are having those little prongs on the outside. What that means is, I'm gonna be lifting this chain and setting it on top of my tire. So therefore, we don't want this side making contact with our tire. We want that smooth bored surface on our wheel. Things to take note of as well, make sure your cams are on the outside, as we'll need them to tighten down our system. Well now that we have everything looking good, I just wanna bring myself right here to the middle of my chain. Start kinda just winging my arms out on the inside here. I find it helps to get this here on our tire and therefore we're not making any contact with our rim. And we get that set across the entirety of our wheel. Now, it can help to make your initial adjustments here just to make sure we are seating properly on our wheel. And now that we're looking pretty good here at the front, I just wanna go ahead, make my first connection on the inside. Here we are on the back of our F-150 on the inside, I should say, of our wheel. And we're just gonna go ahead and make our first connection. So you're gonna have this extra chain here and your nice, simple little hook here, and all we gotta do, bring this guy in line to itself. I'm gonna go ahead, just leave myself one extra spacer here, just to make sure we are set. Now, I might adjust this just depending on the front looks. Today we're gonna go ahead and try it like so. As you can see though, we are gonna get a few extra chains. Now, once you've found exactly where you want this point to be, it can behoove you to go ahead, snip off those last extra couple chains. That way we don't have this rattling around doin
