Ughelli-Asaba Road Dualisation Project: PDP Scam and Drainpipe
For almost 15 years, the various PDP-led administrations in Delta State have been unable to complete one of their star projects, the 162 kilometres Ughelli-Asaba road dualisation project started in 2008.
For the purpose of ease of construction and early completion, the road was divided into 3 sections:
1. Section C, spanning 46.3 kilometres, from Asaba to Ossisa was awarded in November 2008 at a cost of N16.8billion.
2. Section B, spanning 58 kilometres, from Ossisa to Aradhe was awarded in December 2008 at a cost of N15.3billion.
3. Section A, spanning 58 kilometres, from Ughelli to Aradhe was awarded in February 2013 at a cost of N15.3billion.
In 2015, Gov. Okowa budgeted additional N19.1billion to complete Section A.
Section C was divided into two, Sections C1 and C2. In January 2019, Gov. Okowa re-awarded Secion C2 from Ogwashi-Uku-Ibusa-Asaba to CCECC at a cost of N9.03billion.
As at 2009, the then Commissioner for Work, Engr. Paul Osagi stated that the Ughelli-Asaba Road Dualisation project will cost the government of Delta State the sum of N49billion, but as at today, the project has gulped over N80billion.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
