Start the year with a fresh project: replacing this old retaining wall with a clean, board-finish retaining wall and updating the drainage system.

We’re also demoing some existing concrete and prepping it for a new flagstone or bluestone surface that the contractor will add later. You'll see us making the most of the existing drainage system, tying in new downspouts, and adding surface drains to handle the water flow from different sections.

When we pour the concrete, it’ll be recessed about two inches below grade for that perfect finish once the flagstone goes on.

For the retaining wall, we're keeping it solid—8 inches thick, number 5 rebar at 12 inches on center, with a footing about 18 inches deep and 14-16 inches wide.

We aim to build all our walls with the same high quality, even if they're just garden walls, and we make sure they have proper drainage. Stick around until the end for a full explanation of how the drainage system works.
