A recent study from Discover found that 6 in 10 Americans say the pandemic has made them realize how little they have saved for rainy day funds or fiscal emergencies.
A whopping 60% of Americans say the pandemic made them realize just how little savings they have, and 71% stated it made them want to consider saving more than they had previously.
Ram Subramanian, vice president of Deposits at Discover explained: “Though the past year has been difficult financially for many Americans, it is encouraging to see people prioritizing putting away money where they can and taking small steps to enhance financial futures through continued savings.”
He also said: “Especially in difficult economic times, this can be a significant start toward an emergency fund, down payment or nest egg for retirement.”
It’s great to see Americans saving away money, and a fourth stimulus check would help millions of Americans with some much needed financial stability after the past 17 months of craziness.
Meanwhile, a new analysis from the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy found what the average American will receive in stimulus funds this year, throughout 2021.
They found that: “the value of federal stimulus dollars averages $3,450 for the bottom 60% of earners in the U.S. That encompasses everyone making less than $65,000 per year.”
The study also showed: “households earning under $21,300 will actually see close to a 33% increase in their household income in 2021 thanks to the stimulus bills.”
This goes to show just how important these disaster relief stimulus checks are for millions of struggling Americans, and hopefully the new disaster relief bill can feature a fourth stimulus check for the people that still need some fiscal support.
Finally, some great news out of Washington, where the Senate voted to approve the highly anticipated infrastructure stimulus bill yesterday with a 67-32 vote.
This new stimulus package will cost roughly $550 billion, and will put much needed stimulus money into transportation, utilities and broadband.
Republican Senator Rob Portman stated: “Despite the popularity of it and the need for it Washington hasn’t been able to get it done. This time we’re going to get it done.”
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is hoping to pass not just this infrastructure stimulus bill, but also a budget resolution stimulus package before the next Congressional recess on August 9th.
He explained: “My goal remains to pass both the bipartisan infrastructure bill and a budget resolution during this work period. Both. It might take some long nights. It might eat into our weekends. But we are going to get the job done. And we are on track.”
This is great news, and hopefully this new stimulus bill can sail through the House and get President Biden’s signature soon, so that these disaster relief funds can start going to work.
