News Corp’s Finance Writer Sophie Elsworth says the JobSeeker and JobKeeper cutbacks which will be active in just over a week will be a huge shock to the system.
It comes as JobKeeper and JobSeeker payments will be wound back for millions of Australians from Monday September 28.
JobKeeper recipients will see their payments cut from $1500 a fortnight down to $1200.
The coronavirus supplement which goes on top of the flat rate JobSeeker payment will also be wound down to $250 a fortnight instead of $550.
“JobSeeker recipients are going to see a fall of $300 a fortnight, which is going to be a real shock to the system, given they have been receiving this payment for up to six months now,” Ms Elsworth said.
JobSeeker recipients will also have to prove they have looked for up to eight jobs a month under the changes.
