Renault Austral 2025 Revealed: The Compact SUV's Major Refresh!
Get ready for a stunning update in the compact SUV market! The Renault Austral, originally unveiled in 2022, is gearing up for a major facelift set to launch before the end of 2025. This refresh aims to align the Austral's design with Renault's latest family aesthetic, particularly drawing inspiration from the flagship Rafale SUV.
Following the facelift of the Captur, the Austral, Espace, and Megane E-Tech are the only models retaining Renault’s older headlight design. This update will feature sharper LED headlights, boomerang-shaped daytime running lights, a darker grille, and a revised lower bumper intake, all crafted by Renault’s head of design, Gilles Vidal, formerly of Peugeot.
The bodywork of the Austral will largely remain unchanged, as it still looks modern and stylish. However, the taillights might adopt a simpler and more aggressive design, bringing subtle changes to the tailgate. The Renault Espace, introduced in 2023 as a longer version of the Austral with an optional three-row seven-seater layout, might also receive similar visual updates.
Inside, the Austral's Renault OpenR fully digital cockpit will see subtle improvements. Expect upgraded software enhancing connectivity, comfort, and safety features, along with new upholstery and trim options incorporating more sustainable materials. The SUV will continue riding on the Renault group’s CMF-CD architecture, shared with the Espace and Rafale crossovers.
Under the hood, there are significant changes expected to comply with the upcoming Euro 7 regulations. The current 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine might be replaced by an updated 1.2-liter three-cylinder unit. Additionally, a dual-clutch automatic option could be introduced for the 1.2-liter model, complementing the existing six-speed manual.
The Renault Austral faces stiff competition from the likes of the Peugeot 3008, Citroen C5 Aircross, Opel Grandland, Nissan Qashqai, Ford Kuga, VW Tiguan, and Skoda Kodiaq. While many rivals will offer electric versions by 2025, the Austral will continue relying on internal combustion engines, though with increased electrification to boost efficiency and performance.
Stay tuned as we anticipate more details about the 2025 Renault Austral, especially as Renault begins testing development prototypes on the open roads.
